Despite its relatively small number of speakers, the Lithuanian language is dialectally remarkably diverse. Every Lithuanian consonant (except /j/) has two variants: unpalatalised and palatalised. It belongs to the group of Baltic languages but contains many Slavic elements. In Poland, Lithuanian is a language of national minorities, whose youths can take matriculation exam (Matura) in Lithuanian.
